Get started
Open Dropslot in your Shopify admin and click Add upload field on Home. The theme editor opens with the field added to your product template. Set the label and file types, click Save, then try an upload on one of your products.
I don't see the upload field
The field is a theme app block, so it needs an Online Store 2.0 theme (Dawn and the other free Shopify themes are). In the theme editor, open a product template and check the Upload field block is in the product information section. If you set Only on products tagged, the product needs that tag.
Finding the files
Open the order: each line item with an upload shows a link named after your field's label. The Uploads page in Dropslot lists every upload, and all files are also in Content → Files in your Shopify admin.
Making an upload required
Tick Require an upload before add to cart in the block settings. Add to cart then waits for a file. Buy it now buttons are hidden while an upload is required or attached, because Shopify's express buttons skip line item properties; customers check out through the cart, so the file link always reaches the order.
Print quality and cropping (Pro)
Set a minimum width and height in pixels: inches × 300 for a sharp print, so an 8 × 10 in print needs 2400 × 3000 px. Orientation doesn't matter. Pick a shape under Crop photos to and customers frame their photo before it uploads. HEIC photos can't be measured or cropped outside Safari, so they upload as they are.
Mockup preview (Plus)
Choose a mockup image (your product photo with a blank print area) and set the print area's position and size in percent. After a customer uploads, they see their photo placed on the mockup.
File size and types
Each file can be up to 20 MB, which is Shopify Files' limit. Free takes photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP, GIF) and PDFs; Pro and Plus also take AI, EPS, PSD, SVG, TIFF, ZIP and other design files. Web pages and programs are never accepted.
Upgrading or canceling
Plans are managed by Shopify. Open Dropslot and click Upgrade or Manage plan on Home; charges appear on your Shopify bill.
